Social Impact

The Right to Read seeks to raise awareness on the US literacy crisis and to educate audiences on the science of reading. Since March 2023, The Right to Read has reached both domestic and international audiences through over 1,500 community screenings and events.

“...when I saw the documentary, The Right to Read…I got to the ultimate ‘aha,’ this is where the issue is.”

- David C. Banks, NYC Public Schools Chancellor

The Right to Read is proud to partner with the NAACP on a national screenings program, which will make the film available to screen through all of its national branches through December 2024. To learn more about a screening in your area, contact your local NAACP branch and inquire about an upcoming screening.

“Thank you for creating [a film that explains] the problem in a visceral way. It’s one thing to talk about the literacy issue, the racial bias, and the struggles communities are facing, but to show people, is a whole different ball game.
Such a powerful film.

-Educator from Connecticut
